Scotch Ridge Road Improvements
Currently Under Construction
Expected Project Start: May 2022
Estimated Cost to City: ≈ $1,411,400
This project would improve transportation infrastructure along Scotch Ridge Road from Bellflower Drive through the Highway 5 intersection.
The City of Carlisle is part of the Des Moines Metropolitan Planning Organization or MPO. This organization is made up of all the Metro communities and helps facilitate the use of federal transportation dollars that come into the Metro from the federal government. Each year, communities apply for these funds to assist with infrastructure improvements. Through efforts by city representatives that are part of the MPO organization, Carlisle has secured $1,837,000 in federal funding to leverage for this project.
That is approximately 56.5% of the project that our citizens will not have to fund!
The project will include sidewalks and crosswalks to provide a safer route for pedestrian traffic to access the businesses and the Middle School from the surrounding area.
The final design on this project is not complete. There has been some discussion on the best intersections for Highway 5 as well as the access to the Middle School. Our transportation engineering firm, McClure Engineering, is facilitating a feasibility study for possible intersections in the area. A group of citizens will take part in learning about possible solutions to the issues in the area and make a recommendation to Council of what the final improvements should entail.
