School Street Reconstruction – Phase 2 (Includes S. 5th Street)

Currently Under Construction

Project Start: April 15, 2023

Estimated Cost: ≈ $1,998,000

This project continues the second of three phases of School Street sidewalk, street, and intersection renovations from 5th Street intersection to 1st Street intersection. It also reconstructs road and sidewalks along 5th Street from Highway 5 to School Street. The main goal of the project is to address the aging infrastructure in the area. A secondary goal is to study and address any possible improvements that can be made to the street and sidewalk to address ongoing pedestrian and traffic flow concerns. We will be working with the school district and property owners in the area as well as seeking input from the public on the best way to address some of these concerns.

This project was originally broken up into two separate projects. Due to timing and advantages in municipal bond rates, Council chose to combine and move forward with both projects into one.

The overall project is part of a larger master plan to completely redo School Street from Highway 5 to the railroad crossing. Phase 1 was completed in 2019. Phase 2 will be completed in 2023. Phase 3, which includes Downtown, is currently under development with the City's engineer.
